Pokhara Valley Rim Trek

Pokhara Valley Rim Trek & Tour  – Kathmandu Valley – Pokhara – Pokhara Valley Rim Trek - Chitwan – Kathmandu

March 8-22, 2008 – Mid-October, 2008

Day 1

Arrive Kathmandu – check in to Hotel Nirvana Garden in Thamel - Afternoon guided walk through Durbar Square and Asan bazaar in the old part of Kathmandu City.

Day 2

Morning flight to Pokhara – Afternoon free for sightseeing, boating on Fewa Lake - stay at Hotel Barahi.

Day 3

Morning hike to nearby ridge to get in shape and view early morning views of peaks and Pokhara Valley.

Day 4

Begin camping trek to Kalikathan.

Day 5

Chisapani

Day 6

Kalikathan

Day 7

Return to Pokhara and Barahi Hotel.

Day 8

Rest day, laundry, shopping - evening folk dance program with dinner.

Day 9

Travel by road to Chitwan National Park after breakfast – stay at Chitwan Jungle Lodge (www.chitwanjunglelodge.com)

Day 10

Explore the jungle on an elephant back, and later accompany naturalist for guided nature walks and bird watching.

Day 11

Fly to Kathmandu – Stay at Hotel Nirvana Garden -  (www.nirvanagarden.com)

Day 12

Early morning one-hour optional Everest Mountain Flight – return to hotel for breakfast  and free day except late afternoon tour of Boudha Stupa.

Day 13

Full day sightseeing of Hindu Temple of Pashupati, historic city of Bhaktapur, and Patan –  lunch at the Patan Museum.

Day 14

Final Day – choice of a short day trek within Kathmandu Valley, or shopping, sightseeing; departing Nepali dinner.

Day 15

Depart.

Included in the tour:

  • Domestic airfare with airport taxes Kathmandu-Pokhara, Chitwan-Kathmandu (Depending on road and weather conditions, flights may have to be substituted by van-road or vice versa)
  • All ground transportation, airport pickup/drop off
  • All hotels with breakfast
  • Pokhara’s cultural dance program includes dinner
  • Camping trek includes all meals, camping gear like sleeping tent, dining tent, bathroom and latrine tents, sleeping bags (unless you prefer your own), guide, cook, porters etc.
  • Chitwan National Park package includes all meals during stay at Chitwan Jungle Lodge –jungle tours with naturalist, elephant ride, canoe on the river to see water fowl and animals, bird watching, jungle walks, local Tharu cultural dances
  • Entry fees to Boudhanath, Pashupati, Bhaktapur and Patan’s Durbar Square and Museum (including lunch at the museum)
  • City Guide for city and temple tours
  • Final evening’s dinner at prominent Nepali restaurant in Kathmandu

Total cost of tour: $1550 per person based on double occupancy

Nepal Visa:

-Multiple entry 15 days US$ 25 or equivalent convertible currency

-Multiple entry 30 days US$ 40 or equivalent convertible currency

-Multiple entry 90 days US$ 100 or equivalent convertible currency

Tourist Visa Extension:
Visa extension fee for 15 days or less is US $ 30 or equivalent convertible currency and visa extension fee for more than 15 days is US$ 2 per day
Tourist visa can be extended for a maximum period of 150 days in a single visa year (January – December).

-International Airport Departure Tax (approximately $20)

-Lunch/dinner not included unless indicated

-Tips are not included except for transfer of luggage. Tipping of porters and guides on walks, resort and park guides, and long-distance drivers, is usually expected…and best managed as a group

For up to date public health information, go to www.cdc.gov and click on “travelers health” and select the county (Nepal). During March, mosquitoes are not common at low altitudes even in Pokhara or Chitwan because of cool nights. However, it is best to be prepared and I suggest everyone travel with repellent (Deet or Picaridin, etc.).

Tourist visa is $30 for the first 60 days, available on arrival in Kathmandu. The process is simplified if you have exact change and the visa form completed on arrival at the Kathmandu airport, with three passport-size photos.
